We “know” that identity influences our thinking, our choices, and our behavior, but we have a hard time getting identity right.
When we misunderstand our identity in Christ, we will suffer with identity amnesia can be powerful and dangerous. Here is the critical issue: You either define yourself VERTICALLY, or you’ll end up defining yourself HORIZONTALLY!
Horizontal Identity- I Am my success, my relationships, my righteousness, or my possessions.
Vertical Identity- Is rooted in worship. It is only when you have God in His proper place and are celebrating who He is that you can ever truly know yourself.
The cure for Identity Amnesia is worship. When we truly worship God (more than just on Sundays), then we can begin to truly know who we are.
