I Allowed Ministry Define My Identity

| Choices

No one is more influential in your life than you are, because no one talks to you more than you do. Whether you realize it or not, you’re engaged in an unending conversation with yourself.

What you say to yourself is formative for the way you live. You’re constantly talking to yourself about your identity, spirituality, functionality, emotionality, mentality, personality, and so on.

In the middle of those conversations, is what you tell yourself about your identity. We are always assigning ourselves some kind of identity.

You will get your identity from two places. You will either get it vertically, from who you are in Christ, or you will shop for it horizontally in the situations, experiences, and relationships. This is true for all of us.

Leaders, please be careful and don’t allow ministry become your identity. Please don’t allow your faith to become a professional calling. Don’t allow it to become your job.

Sadly, I allowed my role for many years to shape the way I related to God. It formed my relationships and can be a setup for disaster!
